Freedom of expression score in Mali 2000-2023
In 2023, Mali scored 43 in the Global Expression Report (GxR), which was the lowest value in the observed period. The country's GxR score last peaked at 72 points in 2011 but declined as a result of state fragility and political tensions. In 2020 and 2021, the country went through two different successful coup d'états. A higher GxR score indicates a more open society with greater freedom of expression.
